Rahu kaal today
One eighth of the daylight, positioned by weekday. Because it is derived from real sunrise and sunset, it differs by city and by season — a single national timing is wrong for nearly everyone.

How it is derived
Take the time from sunrise to sunset and divide it into eight equal parts. The part that is rahu kaal depends on the weekday, following a fixed sequence that begins with the eighth part on Sunday and the second on Monday. Because daylight is longer in summer, the eighth is longer too — about 96 minutes in June against 78 in December at Delhi's latitude.
This is why a table of fixed clock times is wrong. It can only be right for one city on one day of the year.
Rahu kaal questions
What is rahu kaal?
Rahu kaal is a window of roughly 90 minutes each day traditionally avoided for beginning anything new. It is one eighth of the time between sunrise and sunset, and which eighth depends on the weekday.
Does rahu kaal change daily?
Yes, twice over. Its position in the sequence depends on the weekday, and its length depends on how long the day is — so it is both later and longer in summer than in winter, and different in Chennai from Delhi on the same date.
Is there evidence rahu kaal affects markets?
None that this platform has been able to measure. The workbench runs it through the same event study as every other condition, against an unconditional baseline, and reports the result whichever way it comes out. On the data tested so far it does not clear the significance gates.
About these timings
The figures on this page are astronomical calculations: positions of the Sun and Moon worked out for your city and date. Those are measurements, and they are as exact as the ephemeris behind them.
What the traditions take each one to MEAN — auspicious, inauspicious, favourable for a particular act — is tradition, recorded here as tradition. Nothing on this page is a prediction, and nothing on it is financial advice.
