Nakshatra today

The Moon crosses one of 27 nakshatras roughly every day, changing at an exact time rather than at midnight. Each has four padas and a ruling graha.

Questions

What is a nakshatra?

A nakshatra is one of 27 segments of 13°20′ along the ecliptic that the Moon passes through, each with a ruling graha. The Moon spends roughly a day in each, so the nakshatra changes at a precise time rather than at midnight.

What is a pada?

Each nakshatra divides into four padas of 3°20′. The pada matters in Vedic technique because it maps to a navamsa sign, so two readings in the same nakshatra can differ.

About these timings

The figures on this page are astronomical calculations: positions of the Sun and Moon worked out for your city and date. Those are measurements, and they are as exact as the ephemeris behind them.

What the traditions take each one to MEAN — auspicious, inauspicious, favourable for a particular act — is tradition, recorded here as tradition. Nothing on this page is a prediction, and nothing on it is financial advice.
